speaker-0: I'm waiting for you. speaker-1: I'm just gonna take it home. I'll swear for the sirens to go off letting us know Godzilla's coming. speaker-2: You speaker-0: Boom boom boom boom. Alright, Goot. speaker-1: Geez, here we are. got my, I pulled my special brother from another mother, Burley. He's on our special guest today. speaker-0: from rage, fire and pillage, God damn it. I'm sorry. ⁓ speaker-1: HMPill is great. speaker-2: region pillage burl- speaker-0: Yeah. ⁓ Hold on one second. We got a dog barking here. Bishop. Lay down. All right. Game of Thrones. speaker-1: I know. I thought House of a Thousand Dragons. I'm like, wait, it's Game of Thrones. I thought the dragon behind me. speaker-0: You gotcha. speaker-1: Rage and fire. I thought rage and fire. speaker-2: you you speaker-1: So here we are we're doing a minus one and then we're talking about this bring it We'll bring in some some tales, but the 1954 classic the original Godzilla and how good you know his themes and motifs and they carried it in to make it better in this 70 anniversary classic movie So, geez, like when you guys, did you guys like see this movie in theaters after all the hype or like, because I know when this came out, all the hype started building. Then, you know, then I was like, okay, I better go see this in theaters. And yeah, that blew me away. So when did you guys first see this in theaters or on DVD? speaker-0: Yeah, I saw it digitally. Let's just say that. saw it. I saw it was going to be in the theaters and I know that you went to go see it. You went to go see that the what was the name of the theater again? Yes, the animal draft house, which I've seen a couple of movies with you too, but I saw the hype about it and saying how it's one of the best Godzilla movies ever. So I finally just bought it digitally and watched it. And yeah, that's that's I didn't get to see it in the theater and I've never seen the original Gojira that year. I don't even remember seeing the original Gojira because I guess it's called Gojira, right? speaker-1: Alamo Drafthouse. Yeah. speaker-0: All right, I saw, you remember TNT classics where they play the movies on TNT? I remember seeing bits and pieces of it on there when I was a kid. I don't think I remember watching it in full because I think it was dubbed too. I actually watched the version that's subtitled, but I watched the dubbed version, but yeah, there you go. There's my bit. speaker-2: I ⁓ yeah I didn't I didn't see it in theater I actually didn't it wasn't really on my radar until you told me about it goop whenever it first came out we were still podcasting together and ⁓ I ended up I'll be honest it's tough to get me to read a movie bro so like I went I went back to the movie in my plex and it said I made it about 20 minutes in I was like that sounds like me so but I did watch it now speaker-1: See you. speaker-0: So you're not used to movies with subtitles? speaker-2: Yeah, this movie should have just been called Asians Yelling. Because that's what it was. speaker-1: 100 % yeah cuz ⁓ yeah my kids were watching it with me the original one I wanted to show them like a movie back then and like they're watching it and they're like like Papa why they why they yelling so much like they're scared and like they were laughing like okay speaker-0: That's the thing. That's the thing about this is that me and good did the movie Nosferatu last year. Yeah, we watched the original Nosferatu, which I thought was a good companion piece to watch the original. I actually feel like you need to watch the original to watch this. So when good pick this because this is for our foreign series. ⁓ Each of our movies, all the guys that are hosting a show or hosting a movie that has to be the rules are it's got to be subtitled. It cannot be. Yeah, so ⁓ I'm picking an American movie, but it's subtitled because it's on Indian. It's apocalypto. but ⁓ he picked Godzilla minus one. I was like, if, ⁓ shit, then let's watch the original Gojira. I think that would be a good companion piece to go with it. And I'm actually very glad that I watched it because you could see a lot of the comparisons and a lot of the things that are alike in it. speaker-2: I usually don't like those kind of movies. The OG was sick. It was good. I mean, the script writer, his A and H on his keyboard were probably worn out. But it was a good flick. I liked it, speaker-1: you Yeah, so the whole Godzilla minus one back to that. I saw this first in color, then the subtitles, and thank God in theaters they had it that way. And then I saw it again in black and white because everyone was pushing for that and thank God they had that copy of it. So seeing this, it related so much back to the original. And but yeah, what is on Netflix available right now so you can you can pick the dub how you want it. You can have them speak in English, Japanese or whatever language you want. It's it's unique to hear them speak English. speaker-0: Do you have it? They do have an American dub version. Yes. Yes. I haven't watched it. I didn't watch that one. See, the thing is, speaker-2: that one today I was like there's no way I'm gonna get through reading this whole thing. speaker-0: So you didn't even watch it with subtitles. were like, gave up after a couple of minutes. speaker-2: Yeah, the first time I tried it was some time. I made 20 minutes, dog. I made 20 minutes. That's a record. I mean, I watched the entire first Gojira Criterion collection because I'm classy. And I watched that one. I read that whole thing. speaker-0: I own quite a lot of Criterion collections, actually. Baby steps. But that's the thing is that with the subtitles and listening in the original language, it makes it more realistic. I mean, that's the thing I enjoy about it. Like, I'll name some movies. You got Apocalypto. Great. All in that language. Passion of the Christ. mean, seriously, if you watch that with just that, it's great. It just looks more realistic that way. Yeah, subtitles can be, you know, they kind of take you away from the movie because you have to look at the subtitles and not look at the movie. speaker-2: you speaker-0: but you get used to it, I think it makes it more realistic. I think the American dub version makes it more of a comedy bar because you're like, you can't hear the, you can't see the words going around with a mouth. It's just fucking weird. So. speaker-2: Is there an American dub version of Passion of the Christ? Because that sounds hilarious. It's just like, dude, Judas, come on, bro. ⁓ speaker-0: So it might be. Oh man. Which by the way, uh, goo, before I say that, Godzilla minus one was released November 3rd, 2023 and it was released. Yeah. United States was released December 1st, 2023. So they're only about a month apart. So isn't like the, whole other movies where it takes like almost like four or five months before it's released. Um, and the movie is directed by Takishi Yamazaki. I say that right. I actually said, I actually said that right. Cause I'm not touching the fucking cast. speaker-1: clear. speaker-2: Thanks. speaker-0: because I can't say any of their fucking names. So I'm telling you that flat out. speaker-1: been studying Japanese all morning this morning so I was excited. speaker-0: You did this for- speaker-2: You got your Rosetta Stone out, dude. Let's go. speaker-1: Google Translate, man. yeah, this is the cast of Gazelle Mon- I mean, they look- they're ready for the K-Pop Demon Hunters live action movie. speaker-0: God damn it, don't have glasses, I can't see that shit! speaker-2: This is Mortal Kombat. speaker-1: It's coming out pretty soon, man. I'm excited. This is Michigan. What's his name? Carl Orban. speaker-2: Yeah ⁓ speaker-1: You know the radio announcer I laugh I'm like you can't tell me this hot Jackie Chan and mr. Kisi over here speaker-0: It looks just like him. speaker-1: But yeah, obviously the main star of the movie is the guy, he had a kiss, Tamiki. And then have Manami Hababe. And then Yuki Yamayama. He's the kid. It's the kyori ando. Obviously the mother figure watching the little baby girl. Hideki Yasuyaka. speaker-2: And then... speaker-0: You're doing better than I was. speaker-2: Hey, I remember I remember Akiko. speaker-0: Jason agrees with you. Absolutely hate subtitles. I'm sorry. speaker-1: Yeah, Munika Aiki, he's the mechanic guy and the only one that relevant was ⁓ he was on fire. This one, Kiyoshi Sakai. He was the guy who played the captain of the boat. speaker-0: Who's the scientist again? Where's the scientist? speaker-1: up here. ⁓ speaker-0: ⁓ shit, so he's not old. I was trying to figure that out. My favorite character. I actually enjoyed that guy. speaker-2: He was a throwback to the OG as well, yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, the one with the eye patch. speaker-1: Yes. speaker-2: Yeah. Well, yeah. No, I thought he was the guy in the first one that kept yelling about we need to not kill it. speaker-1: Yeah, that was the old man. Hold on. speaker-0: the guy with the iPad, she was a scientist that came up with that little oxygen that killed a Godzilla where it takes the oxygen out of the water. And he didn't want it to get to other people where it can start wars and kill other people. So he didn't want his, his plans getting away, but he had to use it to kill Godzilla. thought that was more of representation of the scientific guy over here, but maybe I'm wrong. So speaker-2: I I might be confused as well. speaker-1: It's different names. But yeah, the guy who didn't want to kill ⁓ Godzilla's Dr. Yami Yamane. Yeah, I swear I swear. That is him. speaker-0: Is it? speaker-1: think so, yeah. speaker-0: Interesting. speaker-2: Winner. speaker-1: my screen. You know, when I saw the young version of the main antagonist, ⁓ Hedika, what's his name? ⁓ One second. speaker-0: and we're good. speaker-1: This guy, I could have swore this was Shang-Sheng from Mortal Kombat. Yeah. He dies. speaker-2: ⁓ does look like him. So. speaker-0: Okay, see you this had me on the original gate gargira the original there was a character in Gojira that actually reminded me of the the Asian guy that was in Conan the barbarian I thought it was actually him a younger version of him and I looked it up and it wasn't him but you know what I'm talking about The the the one that tells about Conan story speaker-2: ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know who you're talking about. speaker-0: Yeah, there's a guy in Gojira that looked just like him and I thought he was him and I was like going on IMDb. No, it's not him. was like, damn it. I was hoping I was going to be right on that. So, but, before we get to more of the movie, I'm going to say a couple of notes in the movie here about, ⁓ Takishi Yamazaki. Other movies that he's done is called the eternal zero always sunset on third street. He also did space battleship Yamato. ⁓ he did, ⁓ God damn. speaker-2: You speaker-0: I fucking hate not having glasses. Parasite part one, Parasite part two, Lupin three, the first, which is a fully CG animated Lupin film. The budget for this movie was only 10 to $15 million, which is kind of surprising and shocking because this is like a, you know, big, you know, dynamite like a disaster film and the worldwide gross on this movie, it made over a hundred million. One of the most successful Japanese Godzilla films ever. So this is the most popular. speaker-2: Minus one on 15 mil? Crazy. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. the background to him, he's a SPX like ⁓ master. So he knows how to do special effects with a CGI. He has a little bit of CGI in there. But I he just did a tremendous job of like so much planning and like doing the atomic breath and like having Godzilla show up and like the different sets they use. Because the biggest, the biggest hardest part they filmed was on the ocean. You know, the ships out there and like how they have the battle scenes and like it was just incredible to watch. Yeah. That's the biggest thing. You know, I makes me so happy that you know everyone makes a big deal about the budget because you know Hollywood should take note of that and like you know you you can't spend so much money and you have all these superhero movies that are losing money left and right just make a movie that's good CGI you care about the character and boom you'll make money speaker-2: I'm everyone in a room with this guy. Jesus, that some money. speaker-0: Well, CGI nowadays, I feel like it's gone downhill when you look at it. It looks even more faker than it was. Like when you look at Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man's Chest and At World's End with ⁓ Davy Jones. Looks realistic as fuck. But then you look at the CGI now, looks so polished. Like we were at Gladiator 2, we talked about how Gladiator 2 looked like a fucking polished movie. It looked so fucking shiny, it was fake as fuck. It just looks so weird. But the thing about this movie is it actually is the first one visual effects of the Oscars. speaker-2: You speaker-0: for special effects. ⁓ speaker-2: I thought that there were I actually thought all this there was only one part in the entire movie that I could notice the CGI everything else was obviously I there's not really a dinosaur but like I There was one part where there was you can clearly see there was like some fake smoke in front of them But everything else I was like I I thought this was all what's the term for it when they use the practical effects? thought it was all practical effects. Yeah speaker-0: Well that's the thing, did they, I don't know if you knew about this, did they use any model work in this movie? Okay. speaker-1: Yes. When they when the when Godzilla's watching toward ginseng and the main character ladies on the train the subway. Yeah, then yeah, the modeling that did it there and like, obviously, you'd be dying to say this, you know, the guys the radio, TV crew on top of the TV station. like, Oh, my God, we're gonna die. What's going on here? It's just incredible. Then the original they have them on the tower for some reason. speaker-0: Video tower. speaker-1: They get the killed. it's a major homage there. So it was just fantastic how they did the set work and just the model work and just the whole FX effects and yeah, like practical effects. speaker-0: Well, the shots that they did, ⁓ the shots that I really loved that I thought were gorgeous were basically like the far shots where you see him walking in the valley and you just see him doing that slow walk just like this and just, but his hands are just right in front of me. He's just looking just so like I'm fucking king of the world here. I'm just, just gonna, I don't, it's just the way he's walking is I guess homage to the original. Because he's not like doing like, cause the new Godzilla movies where they are, that are the Americanized versions, Godzilla's doing all these moves and moving around and everything else. This one he's, he's more stationary. He's not doing as much. You know what I mean? Yeah. But I, I, I love that shot. Cause I think there's another movie called Shin Godzilla. Have you ever heard of that one? Goot? Yeah. I saw shots of that. We're almost at the same type of thing, but I think this one's more updated, but speaker-1: Big guys, Yeah, came out a few years ago. speaker-0: Beautiful shots like him walking in the fucking on the island and the valley was just beautiful. I think the most that you see him move is when he's younger Godzilla in the beginning on the island ⁓ when he's younger when he's like baby Godzilla or something like that. Godzuki basically. speaker-1: Well that and swimming was in the water and he's swimming that you know that that one moment that happens but the director said that you know he wanted to pay He wanted to make Godzilla more authentic to Japanese culture rather than to the Hollywood USA culture where Godzilla is more fight ready. He's more mobile and faster and just crazy stuff. wanted to it authentic. He's a huge monster because without Googling, he's about 50 meters tall, so that's 164 feet. speaker-2: Well, in the original, it said 185 feet. speaker-1: Bye. speaker-0: bigger than the original. speaker-2: In the original one, it says 185. I kept note of that in my head. like, I mean, guess that's tall for 1954, but feel like the monster's bigger now. You know? That's a big ass monster. speaker-1: ⁓ heck. speaker-0: Well, how tall is Kong? How tall is King Kong? For the original, hold on, I'm gonna look at the original Archeo version. How tall is Archeo Kong? So. speaker-1: One thing in my research before, you know, the original Godzilla in 1954, King Kong came out in 1933. then, so a major influence for this, 1954 movie was a movie made in 1953 called The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. It's about a nuclear blast that happens and it thaws, this dinosaur comes out and he attacks New York. So this movie inspired Godzilla. it's more claymation. Yeah. And you know, during that time period, you have all the movies, have Christian black lagoon, you have, you have, you know, Dracula, Wolverine are a werewolf. And then you have all the tarantula, the big, you know, science fiction movies with big animals. So that blew me away. Look into doing a deep drive. speaker-0: Them that was a them was a fun one. You remember them with the ants? Yeah, that's a classic right there. I remember I remember seeing a lot of things where you see a Joe Dante put in a lot of his movies, you know, Joe Dante, he has he loves the older movies of the 50s and 40s and stuff like that. And he's also got like he's always got like a TV screen in one of his movies showing like an old movie. You could see like the giant claymation dinosaurs and stuff like that on the screen. So I that's why I'm wondering if that's from it because how big is the monster in that one. speaker-1: I didn't look that up. I've watched it many years ago. Like my, I have this like DVD set of like all the original like, you know, silent movies and like movies are in that time period. You know, there's some of the original horror movies, science fiction movies. So speaker-0: You've seen it though, speaker-2: Yeah, I'm looking at the comparison of how these monsters have grown through the years. They keep getting bigger. speaker-0: That's the thing. speaker-2: So I didn't pick up on this in the movie and I was really hoping you all would explain it to me. Maybe that's part of the thing, but it's bugging me. What is the minus one? What is that? I don't understand that. speaker-0: good. I think a good you explained this to me on the phone because I didn't know that until you said on the phone yesterday. So go ahead and explain that. speaker-1: So yeah. So obviously with Japan getting impacted by World War II. So that puts it back to zero. Japan back at like pretty much year zero because being impacted by World War II, the two atomic blasts, know, Nagasaki and the other place. Hiroshima. Hiroshima. Thank you. So yeah, you have Godzilla to minus one. So it's negative because they're still falling back within like the regression time period. speaker-2: Okay, that makes sense. speaker-0: But it is, when I watched this movie, I thought it was almost like a, a remake of the original, but it wasn't a remake, but it really showed a lot of the originals. Like there was a lot of scenes in the movie, the music, the score, the score really got me. was like, that's the original score for the original Gojira. that I actually love that score. actually want I downloaded that score. I already have it because I'm a big score and I love movie scores and the fact that they use the original score for Godzilla was fucking awesome and the fact that they also make Godzilla a villain because that's what he always was in the beginning because then in the future movies where they got cheesy and he's starting to do Chinese and kung fu moves where he's actually doing sideways sidekicks and everything else and having a little godzuki it got more cheesy and he turned into more of a hero battling other monsters but this is when he was actually a villain and I really like how they went to that story where they kept it the villain, know, killing the monster that's killing everybody else. speaker-2: Only thing this movie was missing was Ferris speaker-0: That's funny. speaker-2: ⁓ but yeah that the score for sure at the at the I caught that too But he might have played earlier in the movie But I caught it whenever all the boats were coming up towards the end towards the climax, you know, and ⁓ That the original song started playing. was like, yes. Yes. Let's go ⁓ speaker-0: That felt like a Dunkirk moment by the way with all those boats coming in speaker-2: Sick. It yeah. speaker-1: So yeah, in the original, I was kind of waiting for, I'm not sure what the name of the song is, but you know, the beat that Pharaoh Monk used. I was waiting for that. I was still disappointed. I looked it up. It didn't come until 1964, Godzilla vs. Mantra. That's when that first, you know, the horns and that soundtrack comes into play. speaker-2: Yeah, speaker-0: That's awesome. ⁓ speaker-2: ⁓ see I didn't even know that I didn't know that came originally from a Godzilla movie. That's just Every time I was waiting for get the fuck up ⁓ speaker-1: Get the fuck out speaker-0: Have you guys seen all the original Godzilla movies? Like most of them or any of them? speaker-1: Yeah, I've seen a lot of them. speaker-2: I've made more Godzilla jokes in my life and this is the first time I've ever watched the Godzilla movie. speaker-0: You remember the Godzilla vs. Bambi joke? speaker-2: No. speaker-0: ⁓ yeah, this was a funny thing. My dad actually brought this up to me. He you ever seen Godzilla versus Bambi? I was like, no. You see Bambi in the woods, hear all the butterflies and you see the back forest and all of sudden you just see a big foot stomp right on Bambi and blood coming down. Godzilla wins. speaker-2: Yeah. speaker-1: Have you seen Dave Chappelle first Godzilla? speaker-0: No. never seen that one speaker-1: It's not a spell show. He's a funny skater. speaker-2: Yeah. speaker-0: I have to check that out. I've never seen that one. speaker-1: hilarious him doing a hand to hand fight and like he's like messing with him grabbing his tail hitting him with his tail like you know throws him in a volcano it's absolutely hilarious speaker-2: you speaker-0: It gets into really like I said it gets into real big cheese territory with these films like godzuki is so fucking stupid It's dumb. It's like a little it's like Godzilla's like son or something like that and it is so fucking bad speaker-2: his is Jesuszilla. Son of speaker-0: Oh, that's funny. And you guys do remember the 1998 Godzilla, right? speaker-2: off daddy. speaker-0: Yeah, P. Diddy, yeah, P. Diddy, Wallflowers. I remember the soundtrack was a big thing back then. I actually saw that movie in the theaters, because I was dumb enough to see it, and I thought it was the best movie in the world when I was a kid. speaker-1: I'll never speaker-2: That movie was sick, dude. When I was a kid, I loved it. speaker-0: Yeah, but then you watch it now and it's so completely dated it is bad It is so fucking bad little bitty Godzilla babies all over place. They were trying to copy Jurassic Park Godzilla's the CGI was fucked like when you saw it in the theater was like wow, it was great But then you see it now is like wow that that is pretty bad actually But I mean, there was, and you never saw Godzilla that much. All you saw was like his tail and going in the model work. And, ⁓ it was directed by Roland Emmerich, who actually does a lot of disaster films, Independence day, the day after tomorrow and stuff like that. But it was definitely not a Godzilla movie I was expecting. So. speaker-1: Whenever I think of that movie, I flashback to Taco Bell and their perfect commercials. I remember! have that damn little shawarma saying, hey Liz, hey Liz, hey Liz. I still have that little toy somewhere in my storage unit in Virginia right now, but... speaker-0: I remember that. You creel a taco build. I remember that. speaker-2: Okay, so we're talking about budgets as I can guess. How much did you say minus one cost to make? speaker-0: 15, I got it right here. Yeah, 10 to 15 million. that was big budget. think I think it was probably like 50 or 60 million. speaker-1: million. speaker-2: 150 million dog and then they actually went over budget closer to 200 speaker-1: That's like 200, yeah. That's what I saw. speaker-0: How much did it make though? Was it a flop or did it actually make its money? speaker-2: Yep. Made 379 million worldwide, so not that great, but it was all right. speaker-0: How about how much for domestic though? I'm curious what it in the States. speaker-2: It grows worldwide. The film was considered a financial disappointment. 136 million domestic. speaker-0: Well, still made its money back. Well, no, didn't. Well, worldwide it did, but I mean, domestically it was a flop, yeah. But when I saw it as a kid, I thought it was the best movie in the world, and I told my dad, this is a great movie. My dad gave me shit about it. says, you think this is a good movie? Just like he gets on me when I say, People Under the Stairs is the best movie in the world, and my dad still jokes to me to this day, hey, you still like the People Under the Stairs? speaker-1: Well, people that episode people were trying to change your mind so hard in that movie. speaker-0: Yeah, I know that that was that was a hard that was my third episode hosting so I didn't know what the fuck I was doing. I was nervous as fuck that that was like five years ago. That's how long ago it was but I've got a lot better than that but I still like that movie to this day as I grew up on it. It's a fun movie. It's a fun. It's a stupid fun. It's it's a good it's a Wes Craven horror film, but it's it's stupid but it's enjoyable. That's how I see it. It's not a great movie. speaker-1: It made an impact on the audience. People liked it. speaker-0: Yeah, I enjoy cake eater in it from Mighty Ducks. So he did a good job. speaker-1: But question for you boys, is this the best Godzilla movie ever made? speaker-0: Yes. speaker-2: What does he know? speaker-0: you going by the original? speaker-2: I like the original horror. There was a message to that one, because you gotta think, they were less than 10 years after they got bombed to shit. And they make a movie that is iconic today, plus that ending little talk from the scientist, the, what was he, a historian or something, or a doctor? Yeah. And he's in there going like, hey, if we keep bombing, more bad shit's gonna happen. I dug it, dude, I hate that I'm just now seeing that movie and it made such a big impact, because I'm gonna have to go talk to people and be like, have you seen Godzilla? speaker-0: That's what Goot does to me. He does that to me all the time. He brings movies to my attention and I finally watch him like, God damn it. That was a good movie. Why haven't I ever seen that movie before? speaker-2: I don't have people like that in my life. I get called a nerd quite a bit. yeah, I actually think it was this was an amazing movie. It's number two. It's number two in the Godzilla movies that I've seen for sure. speaker-1: you So I can make the same argument for this one because the impact like you I didn't really find myself caring for the characters in that movie like this one I feel like the main character is the dread like the After Effects of people their pain that the shit they're going through I was the guys go through suicide people trying to like survive from this horrific event you see it plus what makes it Amplified to a thousand to soundtrack like you hear that sounds just adds to it You're like you feel for these people without realizing it and like you you're invested. And then the time between each and like how little Godzilla's are showing up in like the spacial time. Like that was huge and made such an impact and not like overshowing him to make more the audience like know he's coming or expecting what like asking when is he coming but when he comes you're like you stood out of your seat you're like Jesus Christ get him like let's go. It's just incredible. speaker-0: See myself. I think this is the best guys a little movie ever now there the American version the first American version comes Okay, ⁓ the gods over second they go back into cheese territory But I still prefer Kong more than anything. I'm a con guy But if I were to pick a Godzilla film, I would pick this one. Now the original, I loved. I watched it subtitled and all. I didn't watch it dubbed. I actually watched it subtitled and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I thought the story was good. It was very quick. I thought even the special effects for that time, the hand puppet Godzilla and the ⁓ man in the suit looked good. You know, I mean, for that time, it looked really amazing. So I... speaker-2: I have a thought about the that time things that I want to ask you all this question. It's based off of what you just said. Sorry to interrupt you. ⁓ Do you think you could recreate shot for shot the 1954 version? I was sitting there going, yes, this looks cheesy as fuck, but I couldn't even make this now. I don't know how to do this. They figured out some practical shit in there that was just like, ⁓ And they had some cool camera shots with just the tail. dragging by a window, shit like that. was like, they were thinking this through, they were clever with it. And could y'all do it? I couldn't. speaker-0: Probably not ⁓ it's really hard to recreate movies of the past because they it's like your fit It's like you're you're redoing it and it doesn't seem the right way the original so much better Like that that scene where you see Godzilla's head over the mountain when all of them are looking over the mountain I love that scene and you can tell it's a it's a puppet you can tell it's a hand pump Yeah, you can tell that the face changes every now and then where it's a puppet or it's the man in the suit But I don't think it could be recreated. But now black and white could really hide a lot of things, that sort of thing. I wanna watch Godzilla minus one in black and white. I haven't done that yet. I need to watch it black and white because now I wanna know if it makes it better. Because sometimes black and white makes a movie a whole lot better than it being in color. speaker-1: It changes dramatically. So there's a movie upcoming, Spider-Man Noir. Watch that in black and white. Don't watch that in color. speaker-0: I saw that it had two versions you can watch. saw that for the trailer and stuff like that where you can watch in color and black and white. speaker-1: gay. speaker-2: I'll watch them both. speaker-1: Yeah, I'll do the same thing. So does this movie like does it like obviously there's a sequel coming out pretty soon. I'm not sure when I see exact dates, but I know it's coming out soon. Like this is movie like reinventory the kaiju like the original kaiju monster and like having that impact to a country and like can it grow from there? Do you guys think? speaker-0: Yes, yes, I feel like it can I feel like this is this is going a more dramatic more in a dramatic side of Godzilla like I said all the other Godzilla films were a lot cheesy and I think it's going to recreate a lot more of because they're already doing the America I mean they even have a show based off the Godzilla Godzilla us speaker-1: is Monarch Monarch incorporated speaker-0: of monsters or something like that. It's got Kurt Russell in it, which I haven't seen. I looked at it. It looks interesting, but I think it is recreating. There's a lot more disaster films based on Kaiju's. That's you say it, right? Kaiju. So I think it definitely, it is a step in the right direction of where it's going. And I would like to see if they could still do a guy in a suit instead of CGI and see if they can make it look better and make it more realistic. I mean, do you think- speaker-2: They kind of did that and like you mentioned earlier the way he was walking I was like speaker-0: That's what I thought. thought it was like, because he looked like he was a guy walking in a suit, but it was CGI. But I almost thought that they were a copy. Cause I remember when I saw the trailer for Godzilla minus one, Godzilla did look just like the Godzilla in the Americanized version a little bit, but a little bit more, I don't know. He a little bit more different color on him and stuff like that. A little more, yeah. And stuff like that. with his, what are those things on his back that come out? speaker-1: The tent was different, yeah. scale. speaker-0: Yeah, well the skills that come out the spikes that come out that reminded me the Americanized you think Godzilla minus one was copying the Americanized versions at all good because I feel like they almost got some stuff from those movies also, the way he looks, way that his Ray was a lot more different. speaker-1: Yeah, I think that's what they wanted to like specialize to the show the power of him. the atomic breath was like me Jesus Christ. That was the nuclear blast. mean, Christ, have mushroom impact like just the beautiful that beautiful for the people that see that again. I mean, their souls took it. I mean, what do you do? You're all dead. speaker-0: shots. speaker-2: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm glad they brought back the glowing tail thing. I like that a lot. That was sick. And I'm sure in black and white, that looks very reminiscent of the old one, too. Yeah. The nuclear blast thing was like, it's not just buildings being set on fire. Shit's exploding. That shit was fucking awesome. speaker-0: ⁓ yeah, the whole big mushroom cloud. And the thing is when you just see him at the distance just staring at what he just did, it's just like, ⁓ I loved it. speaker-2: Yeah, that's the scene that got me, dude. They hit him with everything they had and then the dust cleared and just this stoic Godzilla face just staring off in the distance. I'm like, ⁓ this is bad. This is bad. I've never used the word stoic when referring to a monster and he had it, dude. ⁓ yeah. speaker-0: Hunky motherfuckers, I'm the winner here. speaker-1: Did, so what was the scene that like did like, you'll see this in movie theater and like seeing people cry. My wife was crying at the end. ⁓ Was there a part that like dust got in your eyes? You're like, you had to fight back tears. You're like, man, this is, this has gotten me like I got to fight this off. speaker-0: I didn't want Godzilla to die. Well, that's the thing. When it happened, you see his head just get taken off basically because the fucking plane just flies right into his mouth and his head gets off. was like, ⁓ if they could have made him live and just come back. I didn't want his head being blown off. And then he started falling apart, which was, that was weird. I wasn't expecting that to him. It was like, it kind of reminded me of ⁓ what it was. It's a, speaker-1: Not dead. speaker-2: Yeah. speaker-0: uh, resident evil when the guy got sliced up by the cubes or by the, by the lions going in. You remember I'm talking about in that hallway? Yeah. All of a sudden it's just a pile just falling out. That's what it reminded me of, but less gore. But, uh, I didn't want Godzilla to die. No, no, there was a lot of great. Scenes in this movie where it can pull at your heartstrings, uh, especially with the, uh, the what's her name? The chick, uh, a lotto. don't remember. Need Nikoto. speaker-1: later. speaker-0: I said, I can't do the names. The one that got, that kind of pushed the guy in the alleyway and got blown away. And also the little, the little baby girl actually was cutest. Like she's a little cute little girl that was, that was like precious. And the way that she was saying daddy and everything. that, that anything that has to do with daddy pulls at my heartstrings. That always. speaker-2: That crying was too real they told that kid some terrible things ⁓ speaker-0: make that kid cry like that because she was crying. was like, are doing? Like telling her back. mean, I don't know what they did, but they did a good job. The acting was top notch in this movie. There was no bell. speaker-2: You feel violin-less. speaker-1: You crap for snacks. for me it was like when when godzilla goes to the ⁓ jinson the city and when they start playing the like i yeah i don't know that hit me i was like ⁓ my god speaker-0: That gave me goosebumps. It wasn't a tear moment, but that gave me goosebumps because like, they use the original score. So that gave me goosebumps right there. speaker-2: Have they ever have they ever had like Because Godzilla's been around a long time, right? We've mentioned this over so they mentioned this in the movie Yeah, no, no, I mean like even in the movies. They're like, hey, my ancestors told me about Godzilla with the dead fish came up the boba They need to make a samurai versus Godzilla speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-2: That would be sick. speaker-0: They've already had Godzilla doing kung fu in the past movies, so I'm sure that can come down. Maybe some day somebody's gonna make an AI video. Maybe they did the AI Tom Cruise's for bad pins. So says Godzilla versus Tom Cruise. Who's gonna win? speaker-2: Where did? speaker-1: So I kind of went heavy in the different theories. I think at the end there, you mentioned Noriko, the main Czech lady. When she gets blasted and when she pushes the Chigashima into the alleyway and she gets blown to the side, Obviously she should be dead, right? I saw some theories of like, you know, because at the end of the scene there, you see something purple on her neck, right? Right. speaker-0: So I did see her there. speaker-1: So one of the theories is that she got like nuclear, like exposed to nuclear radiation and her body can regenerate. Cause how else would she survive that blast? speaker-0: I mean, Godzilla was regenerating with the, ⁓ the radiation. that could be a point. Maybe that's something that would be pointed out in the sequel. Or is that just a conspiracy theory for people online? speaker-1: conspiracy theory. speaker-2: I like this. speaker-0: Sometimes conspiracy theories can be truth. speaker-2: He has the documents. Let's do this. I actually like that idea. I have a huge dude and she grows and have a human versus Godzilla. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-2: ⁓ yeah, I'm into that. ⁓ speaker-1: like rippling alien because yeah, because you know, with this movie, like I love the concept of having a monster and they're so little. And like I was like trying to think of like ask you guys a question of it. Can you think of another like franchise obviously like Jaws and alien. But Quiet Place does a fantastic job with this like their mom. speaker-2: That was my exact thought, was a quiet place. It takes a while for you to see a monster. speaker-0: I was thinking about this question because we were talking about this yesterday, Goot, and does it have to be a franchise or can it be a single movie? Okay, so what I figured is because this movie that I'm gonna talk about right now is actually a fun favorite of mine. It's underrated in my opinion. It's called movie, it's called Underwater. I don't know if you all have seen it. There's even a Waylon Yutani cameo in it ⁓ on a belt loop, but it's about the Chaloo-hoo. Did I say that right? Chaloo-hoo? All right. speaker-1: Whatever you want, speaker-0: and also the humanoid parasites. But a lot of that movie is the tension of them trying to leave this underwater ⁓ like oil rig or something like that. And you see all these things outside, hear all these noises, but you barely see them. You only see maybe like five, 10 minutes in the whole movie. But that kind of reminded me of that. And I thought that movie did it really well. Yeah, you've seen underwater, have you, Goot? I love it. speaker-1: Definitely. Yeah. Christmas in that role. mean, it's fantastic movie, the dread and like, you don't know they're gonna survive or not. They're fighting for survival. speaker-0: Yeah, I think that one right there. And then if for honorable mention, I have to do alien and aliens and me and good other talked about that. It's aliens is like my number one movie of all time. And I think it does so well with not showing the alien that much, especially the original alien and aliens, because you hear more of the tension, the chemistry between the soldiers and then battling these creatures and everything else. And it's perfection, in my opinion. And I think it leaves more to the imagination. And that's what makes us great. speaker-2: Yeah, mine was gonna be a quiet place. I thought I had a cool one and then just throws it out there on a riff. speaker-1: So for me like I I harp on us a lot a lot of shows of Ron But like I they could pull this off if they finally decide to do a remake for the creature from the black lagoon This is a perfect You know just a perfect you know script from the follow to hit that because some people love that movie They want to see a remake color or black and white having both. Yeah, but they could definitely pull it off with that monster speaker-0: I really, really, really curious when they're ever gonna make a remake of that movie. It's been so long. Like they've done a horror remake of just about everything else except that. Guillermo del Toro has done sort of like a homage to it with Shape of Water and also the Hellboy movies with the amphibian dude. But like I wanna see like a real remake, you know, with the boat out in the lagoon, just like, cause I watched that movie for the first time because of Goot. We did an episode on it. Excellent fucking episode. Had so much fun with that. And it made me really enjoy movies like this, like watching older movies. speaker-2: I don't know how he missed Jaws. They don't show the shark to the end. speaker-1: I it. speaker-2: ⁓ did you say Jaws? They don't say it until the final act. speaker-0: How much screen time? Hold on, hold on, let me see here. How much screen time does Jaws have in the movie Jaws? speaker-1: 38 minutes. speaker-0: I think it's more than that. Why am I doing this the wrong way? Hold on one second. How much screen time does Jaws have in the movie Jaws? ⁓ it has four minutes, four minutes movies about two hours and four minutes long. The shark can only fully visible in short bursts. Mostly in the final act four minutes. Yeah. I didn't even realize that. thought maybe 15, 20 minutes, not four minutes. Wow. So that, that right there might be the king. Four minutes is short. speaker-2: Stick. I'm looking at a list that only shows the monsters till the end. So we got Alien, obviously we got Jaws, The Quiet Place, but then The Thing from 1982. The Ritual from 2017. speaker-1: Such an underrated movie. I'm so happy people if they catch it on Netflix. It's such huge impactful movie speaker-0: That's the one with the antlers, right? speaker-1: Yeah, Loki's bastard son. So yeah, Godzilla only shows up for 10 to 12 minutes in this movie. speaker-2: What? speaker-1: Let's look up as well. 10 to 12 minutes. speaker-0: can see that, because this movie's a lot more character development and a lot more of the interaction between the characters. This movie is more about the characters than it is the monster itself, in my opinion. It's definitely more about the characters. speaker-2: The acting in this was top tier. Top tier, yeah. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah. speaker-0: great and I was very even the fucking like I said the little kid was amazing the little kid that ⁓ little baby girl and everything but ⁓ everybody in this movie the whole core group of that ⁓ the ⁓ the boat the mines we were boat I loved all their interactions like you know the younger guy the older guy it's just the way that he was yelling out when the other guy was coming up with all the tugboats and everything I'm gonna come to happy is here. It's just the way he said it. Actually, he said it in Japanese. I said it in American, but it was great. I loved how well the acting was in this movie. speaker-1: Yeah, they all had character arcs. It was so beautiful to see. They had whatever impacted them and they just tried to be at the end or so they think they'd be at the end. It tremendous. It's a story writing. speaker-0: Alien versus... Alien versus Predator better? No! No! No no no no no no! speaker-2: I'll watch any AVP they... I like, they're fun, bro. They're fun. speaker-0: They're not so better though. speaker-1: trying to get under Ron's skin. speaker-0: Yes. Yeah, Jason, you're wrong on that point. I'm sorry. Alien versus Predator is not better than aliens going into chase territory. Yeah. When he said he that Alien versus Predator was better than Predator. I'm like, fuck you. Predator is like number one action movie of all fucking time. Alien versus Predator is is cheesy fucking stupid crap. It's fine. speaker-1: Flashbacks. speaker-2: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I gained an inch every time I watched that movie. speaker-0: I got excited. I saw it in the theater and the scene when he's like taking the fucking alien and like wrapping it around the room and doing like a whole you know, work the roof and everything. That was cool. You have my oh, this is what you have your opinion. have mine. Well, there you go, Jason. speaker-1: roasted. speaker-2: Sorry, it's wrong, but whatever. speaker-0: ⁓ that's f- speaker-1: ⁓ So well as you guys like your dan cambell, holy shit they went for a moment speaker-0: ⁓ that's when the fucking, when he, the guy came back in the plane and went right towards his head. But I wasn't, I thought he was actually to kill himself. I actually thought he was, he was to do the kamikaze, but he takes the parachute and then it flashbacks to the mechanic telling him, I want you to live. This is the ejection and everything else. So I wasn't expecting that. So that was like, Holy shit, he left. But with the interaction with the little girl, And the woman that was taking care of little girl and everything, I was like, something is up here. He's gonna still survive this or is he actually gonna die and this is gonna be like a fucking, know, crying Godzilla movie, but no, he survived. That was like, holy shit. I didn't think that was gonna happen. So there's mine. speaker-2: Yeah, I was expecting an Independence Day cousin Eddie situation where he was just flying straight into the beam, you know what I mean? speaker-0: Guess what? I'm back! I remember that. speaker-2: That's what I was waiting for on that one, but then he really puts it out there speaker-0: Oh man, Independence Day is fun. That's cheesy stupid fun, but I saw that in the theater, and seeing the fucking White House blow up and all their stuff blow up, was good shit. speaker-2: That was a game changer. Yeah. speaker-1: So for me, like the boat scene, like when they're out there blowing up mines, stuff like that, and they have two on the boat, and then you finally see Godzilla come up, and it's like, I'll never forget standing up and screaming, let's go. just the whole music, the atmosphere, the tension was just like, that was it for me, speaker-2: When they were just looking over at the other ship and then I don't know where the head just comes up and is just That was sick. I like that that one caught me off guard I was expecting a reveal then a destroy but they that's how they did it both same time. I love that By the way did in that scene with the where they're doing the loop-de-loop around him Was he standing was he treading? Well, he was waist-high, dude speaker-0: I saw something online about Godzilla where it showed like a picture of Godzilla standing up the water and then his foot was like almost like hundred feet long or something like that. maybe he's got floatation sneakers on his fucking feet because he's floating some way. He's got something underneath him holding him up because I don't know how he does that. He just stands up like he's like standing on something. speaker-2: Yeah, because he hit 1000 meters right after that. speaker-1: It's like the buoyancy factor I was looking up and like whether his his love is like it's like he's like waiting like a duck almost because their feet this is his feet are so big and like his tail can keep them balanced so he's like just slowly isn't like put that much like force into it. That's why it makes sense suspend belief you know. speaker-0: Should he be bouncing that? to where his are basically just like this. His feet are just doing like this underwater and just holding themselves up. speaker-2: That will never show that angle. That'll make them look like a goofball. speaker-0: But I think it would make it so much better if you just see him like kind of like bouncing up and down, you know, like God's speaker-1: No. speaker-2: I was thinking about this. What's the motive of the monster? Why? He's not really eating. speaker-0: think it's instant. speaker-1: That's my hot take right there. speaker-0: I think it's instinct. I think it's instinct. That's all I think it is. ⁓ speaker-2: In the first movie they mentioned like in the old days they would send out a virgin on a raft to keep the Godzilla from getting mad and then there was no mention of it ever again in the movie as like why did you just send a virgin you'd be done with this just launch one out there So I was trying to figure out what's the motive of the monster because I never really see him eating anybody except for that first scene in the movie with that thing he just kind of threw the guy anyways speaker-0: No, no, he didn't need anybody actually. All he did was just take them, pull them up and then throw them out into the ocean or throw them someplace else. It was really cool. It was a cool moment. Yeah, the young Godzilla was a little bit more, had a little bit more movement than the older Godzilla where he was more of like just like a stance and everything. But ⁓ I don't know. I think it's just instinct. He's just going there and he's just, ⁓ I'm gonna destroy this, destroy that. I'm gonna go back into water, feed, go back out, destroy this. speaker-2: I'm dead seen a lot, yeah. speaker-0: Do whatever the fuck he wants, he's the fucking king. King of the monsters basically. So, I don't know. There's really, I mean what do you think, do you think there's anything motive for him? Oh you said that's in your hot take though. Okay then we'll wait for that. speaker-1: I'll save it for that. You're gonna laugh burly at this one. shit, just go for it now. speaker-2: All right. It's suspense. speaker-0: I'm curious now. speaker-2: I'm just kind of free thinking. Sorry guys. You're good. speaker-1: I saw that. speaker-0: can't see, man. I don't know why I can't see shit. I'm seeing the text here. Like, I really need my glasses. This fucking sucks. And these things keep fogging up because I'm getting hot as fuck in here, so I keep having to look down so can see in this thing. speaker-2: You know, hot and bothered. speaker-1: ⁓ My hot take of the movie so it answers Burley's question So I think the US the greatest country in the world They created Godzilla and they said over there while doing atomic blast as well more nuclear testing over there just a mess with Japan and and So they created Godzilla just to create more havoc on Japan, you know afterwards I love the foreshadowing, you know the kid, you know the orphan little girl and their parents No one has kids. So it's like foreshadowing the future of them, you know being so screwed you know the factors stuff like that so I think the United States made Godzilla just to torture Japan even more speaker-0: Yeah. Interesting. speaker-2: Dude, if we had that though, ⁓ we'd unleash them all at once. Like around the world, we'd be gods. would be great, dude. ⁓ It'd be crazy. It'd be in Dubai right now, just tearing down hotels. speaker-1: Thank speaker-2: ⁓ man. You know what? didn't play yesterday and it kind of, I went to a pizza shop and they had rampage on an arcade game. You remember that one? I mean, that had Godzilla on there kind of sound. speaker-0: shit you remember ⁓ primal rage the fucking yeah well you can pick the fucking I think you're like the gorilla you one of your fart moves as a fart move first move that game was fun speaker-2: Yeah! speaker-1: See? speaker-2: It's that cool anymore. Killer is thinking the other one was the Clay Fighters. I don't even remember that one. speaker-0: I remember clay fight. ⁓ yeah. I grew up in the nineties, man. That that that's clay fighter was the shit later. Clay fighter, mortal common, of course, street fighter. I mean, there was a whole bunch of, there was even a lot of moral combat rip offs that I used to play, ⁓ stuff that was awful. ⁓ man, there's so many, there's, even a Jackie Chan game, a Jackie Chan fighting game that I remember playing. So speaker-2: That's it. speaker-0: food. That is bad. Yeah. I know about that one. There's, there's some bad ones out there. Then you got, ⁓ what's the, ⁓ Tekken Tekken was okay and stuff like that. I even remember there was a star Wars fighter, star Wars, ⁓ stage fight. Yeah. speaker-2: I don't know about that. I don't know. speaker-0: Rise of the, something like that. Yeah, you can be Darth Vader, can be Luke Skywalker. Darth Vader's hard to beat in it, but it was actually ⁓ like a Mortal Kombat, but Star Wars characters. I forgot what the name of the, it's like the Star Wars, and it's a certain type of like, yeah, look it up. You'll see what it is. I'd have to look it up, but ⁓ did you wanna do hot takes now? speaker-1: Yeah, this is mine. was going to ask what was, I was going say what barely first, but he's looked that up. speaker-2: I don't know. ⁓ okay, sorry. speaker-0: Go ahead and did you find it? speaker-2: Yeah, it was at Star Wars Masters. speaker-0: Masters of... Yes. It's a certain type of fighting style. I know that. Yeah. It's bad. You could even be one of those fucking pig guys from Jabba the Hutt's ⁓ place. Like you could actually be with him as a fighter. So... It was on PS1, I believe. Yeah. Yeah. speaker-1: Here is Haast. PlayStation. speaker-0: Rise of the Kaijers, Rise or something. I don't remember it. I know it had all it had Luke Skywalker had Darth Vader. I think even had Han Solo had Princess Leia. ⁓ It had the little pig dude. It had, ⁓ I think it had, don't know if it had Boba Fett. I don't remember, but it was a while. There was even a Star Wars chess where like a battle chess where the Star Wars characters would fight. speaker-2: Dude, Star Wars is like Kiss, they slap you their name on fucking everything. Yeah. speaker-1: I look at this graphics, dude. got, you know, Luke versus Boba Fett. speaker-0: Yep. Yep. I remember this. That was the only Star Wars fighting game they ever had. Yep. speaker-1: That's his layer. Double lightsaber, I mean. That's crazy. speaker-0: Yep. Yeah, that stuff doesn't exist anymore. speaker-2: I think I fucked up because my hot take was the whole, how the fuck was he standing up in the water but he sunk down. I didn't know that. I was just talking, sorry. That was my hot take. We kind of hit it already. speaker-0: My hot take is sort of more of like a review. like, I mean, it isn't just another Kaiju movie. a straight redemption story. It's an emotional story. The chemistry between the leads actually hits. Godzilla's horrifying. He's not a meme, he's not a walking nuclear nightmare like we've seen before. mean, the subtitles don't take away from it. I mean, it makes more it realistic in a way. And I love the acting of the core crew. So it's deep, devastating. It's still one of a hell of a popcorn flick. This, this movie is just fun to watch. And I think it would be even easier on the big screen in my opinion, because Seeing this on a small screen with the subtitles, that might be hard. I didn't burly you have a hard time with subtitles, but seeing on the big screen that might make it easier for you. You might have to go see the theater and I think it might make it easier to watch it because if you watch it with the actual language and you see the emotion, the emotional, the way that they're talking and everything else, especially at the end when all the boats are coming and you could just see all the emotion when they're yelling, it's ⁓ he's here and everything else. But in that language, it was just beautiful. I just think the subtitles do not ruin this movie at all. I love the fact that it's in the original language. I do not want to see it dubbed. I think that would ruin it for me. speaker-1: So just some added notation here, Burleigh. Ron watches most movies with subtitles. That blows me away. I don't understand that bit. speaker-2: Even English movies? Yes. ⁓ yeah, that's enough to make me want to beat my children. ⁓ And they do the same thing. They turn the subtitles on and stuff that's in a sitcom in English. like, what are you doing? You can hear just fine. speaker-0: Sometimes though there's some people that you can't hear certain things and you want to hear what they're saying. There's sometimes they are mumbling something and the subtitles will say what they're saying like ⁓ so that's what they were saying and then you know the subtitles what the fuck did they say so I'm sorry I like my movies. speaker-2: In my head, I'm just like, I probably didn't need to know it anyways. It's like when Bill Murray whispers into Scarlett Johansson's ear, I didn't need to know, I didn't need to know. speaker-1: What was that movie? speaker-0: Bill Murray says, I'm gonna fuck you the other, I'm gonna fuck you tonight. Just letting you know before you leave. speaker-2: Yeah, exactly. speaker-1: What was that movie with Tom Hardy we did for Chase? It was the British the twins speaker-0: ⁓ Legend, legend. speaker-2: Oh, that was a good one. speaker-1: Legend. I can't even forget we were talking about that movie Burley and I said you know I actually had to turn on the subtitles because I didn't know what the hell they were saying and like everyone looked at me like I was a foreigner I'm like wait you guys watch movies on like subtitles like speaker-2: Yeah. speaker-0: That's the thing when you have the original language like shit. I'm gonna just say this. I'm a Game of Thrones fan. Yeah. And I just watched the Knights of the Seven Kingdom, which I thought was a great show, but they really talk about old and medieval English where I can't fucking understand what the hell they're saying. Even Sammy, my wife was watching the movie. She was like, can you turn the subtitles on please? we understand what they were saying. So I'm sorry. Subtitles are like a given in my place. I have to have subtitles because sometimes you just can't, there's some things you just can't understand or hear. speaker-2: Yeah, the only show that I can think of like that where I actually had to do it that was in English was Deadwood. But they were speaking that weird version of English that was almost Shakespearean. I'm like, yeah, I'm not picking up on a lot of this stuff here. We got to read some here. speaker-0: The main word of that show is cocksucker. Deadwood is one of my favorite. That word probably has the most world record of cocksucker being used in anything because I think it's probably about 30 or 40 times in each episode. That show is amazing. I'm glad they actually finished it off with the movie. speaker-2: Yeah, can see that. Yeah speaker-0: because it ended on the third season and it kind of let us like, what the fuck? We're not gonna continue it. But then 10, 11 years later, they make a movie which kind of, know, finalizes the thing. But I wish they would have just kept the series going because that was a great fucking series. Alice Wearington is a great fucking character. speaker-2: Amazing. That's probably my number three favorite show of all time. speaker-0: I am right. I'm going to have to agree with you on that. That is one of my favorite sopranos, Game of Thrones, dead. HBO always does great with their shows. speaker-2: That's my three right there. Sopranos number one, Game of Thrones and then Deadwood. speaker-0: ⁓ then we got something in common, buddy. That's a good one right there. speaker-2: The soprano's greatest TV show ever made. I'll fight anybody. speaker-0: I'm a greens with you Tony soprano. I have Tony soprano poster everywhere. I love Tony soprano James Gannafini when he died. I actually wept a tear. I fucking was so sad because he was fucking Tony soprano is amazing. So we're going off subject goop. speaker-1: You're fine. speaker-2: conversation. speaker-1: When Bill Paxton died, that hurt me. What I ask goes his nine year anniversary dying. So I'm like, I'll never forget where I was when I found out he died. Yeah. speaker-0: Nine years already? speaker-2: The president? speaker-1: Bill Paxton. speaker-0: Bill Paxton, did he ever play a president? No, he didn't play a president. I was wondering if he ever played a president. No, that was Bill Paulman. speaker-2: Wasn't he the president on Independence Day? Damn it. That was a good joke, too. God damn it. speaker-0: ⁓ shit. speaker-1: So, ⁓ as my last question before our final thoughts in the movie, ⁓ what memorabilia would you take from this movie? speaker-2: Explain that question. speaker-1: like in the movie like item wise what you want from the movie like what you want the boat the plane or like ⁓ speaker-0: I want the wooden boat. I actually really enjoyed the wooden boat and that was actually and I'm just gonna say that's my favorite scene of the movie. ⁓ When Godzilla is chasing the wooden boat, that scene was awesome. Seeing him swim in the water and his head just popping up and down and the water special like the CGI water looked beautiful. It looked good. But that boat being wooden because so it didn't get to the magnetized mines that were in the water and everything. I really enjoyed that like the whole crew, the whole crew on that boat. was just great. So I would take that wooden boat in a heartbeat. I love boats. So yeah, I'll go with that. speaker-2: thought the plane was sick because I didn't understand it. I don't know dick about fucking airplanes, but why is there no rudder on the back? speaker-1: They're kamikazes. There's a straight go fast. It makes them faster. speaker-2: How do they, isn't there a rudder for steering? speaker-1: more for the wings and like the different directions the wing so the heels going more up and down and sideways like this speaker-0: I and I think it's it's less when pushing on with with the having the the the what you call the what was it the tail it's pushing against the wind and since there's no wind it couldn't go faster so almost makes the plane basically like a fucking missile I mean that's just a speaker-2: I didn't know shit about that. was sitting there going like, something up with this plane is odd. Yeah. the shot of the of the plane at the very beginning when it's just zeroed in on the missile hanging underneath the plane when they're landing underrated shot underrated shot that was sick I like the hell out of that so speaker-1: This is a tough one. I do love the boat because mostly because the m13 in the back if I could have if I was in situation was out fishing I needed to use it I could use it. Yeah sick So yeah, I'll take the boat as well. I know there's so much in there but like I the house Yeah speaker-0: You took mine. I'm surprised. I didn't think we'd have the similar one. It was hard because I was actually trying to figure out what I was going to take from this movie. And there really wasn't that much unless you can take the Godzilla monster itself. yeah, agree with you on that. speaker-1: Take all the yen up the money he gives the little kid. Yeah. speaker-2: Cheers! speaker-0: Which by the way, how old was that woman that was taking care of the kid? Because she looked like she got a lot more younger at the end. speaker-2: I noticed that too. Yeah. speaker-0: Like she actually looked quite attractive actually at the end like in the beginning she looked like an old woman like an older woman and she was all bitching about you know you didn't do your job you were supposed to kamikaze but at the end when she was all cleaned up she was like she's not a bad looking woman why did you go with this woman speaker-1: make it because she lost everything. It shows a perfect transformation in the character arc. You she's lost everything. She's like depressed as hell. Obviously, dirty as hell cleaned up. So yeah, she's happier. She's got a little girl in her life again. You know, she feels like her life has meaning again. That has a huge impact. speaker-0: Do you feel like they're gonna get like those two are gonna get involved because like I said, she didn't she didn't have gray hair. She was all black haired. I mean, she looked young. So I'm wondering if they will get involved. I mean, or was she more of like a motherly character? Because that's because that's almost like a grandmother type of deal. But like I said, she looked younger at the end. So that's why I got confused. I couldn't figure out I wish they would explain how old she was. speaker-2: That's what she was. speaker-1: Yeah. Asagorolzios. speaker-2: Hey, bitch. speaker-1: So, Broly, do you have any other thoughts or questions you want to ask or talk about? speaker-2: I I do wanna say there was one thing I noticed in the original, I keep going back to the original, I loved it so fucking much, sorry guys. speaker-0: No, it's fun. It's cool that you like the original better than the new one. speaker-2: Whoever there's a, there's a, there's a, there's a shot in the, the, where God's ill has finally hit in the mainland and he steps on a bridge and it doesn't collapse. And I was sitting there going like, whoever that engineer is, is at home going, And then on the way back to the ocean, he stops and like picks it up like, it's like, ah, I don't like this thing. It it. It was maybe laugh. But yeah, that's it. speaker-0: I my job. speaker-2: Sorry, I enjoyed the black and white when it was sick. speaker-0: No, no, like I said, and watching Gojira after before this, I, glad I did. I'm glad I could see the comparisons. Like I said, the whole radio tower thing, I was talking to good about this and brought it up. I'm seeing like the music score and also the scenes of how Godzilla walks. I really enjoyed Gojira. I really enjoyed how they both had two different ways of killing him. This one was kind of like using pressure to build them up and basically the, to decompress and everything else. And the original was like taking the oxygen out of the water and then turning Godzilla into a skeletal mess underwater or something like that. I thought it was very interesting and it was good. It was very entertaining. I thought it was great. It doesn't beat God's, I mean, King Kong. I like the 1933 Kong better. I just love Kong. I love Peter Jackson's Kong. I think that's a great movie. speaker-2: I saw that one. I don't think I've seen the original King's speaker-1: you speaker-0: See, that's the thing about Peter Jackson's Kong and Godzilla. Godzilla minus one in this movie, you wait for the characters. In Peter Jackson's King Kong, I cried when the fucking ⁓ King Kong died. It was emotional. It sucks seeing him getting shot off and falling down, because he was just an animal and he was protecting the chicken. It was a very good story. I thought Jackson's King Kong was a very highly emotional, beautiful movie, great movie. speaker-2: Is that the one with Jack Black? Okay, yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, that's one Jack Black. And Adrian Brody, believe. And not Neve Campbell. Thank you. I knew it was an N. That's why I watched Scream last night. that's Neve Campbell is in my mind. but... No, just the first one, just the original. I haven't even seen the other ones. I saw two and three and I gave up. I don't care for all the other sequels. I heard the seventh one was sucked from one day here. I keep seeing all the reviews online that it sucks. speaker-1: Tell me what's seven or six. I've seen good and bad, but I haven't seen it yet. I'll see it soon. speaker-0: Yeah, I just like the original. The original to me is the OG is the best, but I'll agree with you, Burley. The black and white Godzilla is great. I really enjoyed it. So fire. speaker-2: Yeah, that's all I got on that. That's all I got to say about that. speaker-0: You know what? Let's do a pine review. When we do pine reviews for the Godzilla Minus One, let's just do an enjoyment for the original Gojira. I'm curious what everybody's enjoyment for that, because that just gives a little bonus right there for the original. We don't have to do a critical, we just do enjoyment. So. Sure. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, but yeah, that's all about the movie. mean, I feel like we've touched every corner we can about the movie, the original. speaker-0: This is fun. This was a fun episode. I'm very, really happy how this turned out. think we discussed everything and this was just great. This was fun. speaker-2: Enjoy the hell out of it. speaker-1: Who wants to go first? speaker-0: How about speaker-2: Not it, ⁓ speaker-1: Bye, bye. speaker-0: I can go first, I don't care. Goode is the host, so the host always goes last. All right, so let me do my enjoyment for Gojira. For Gojira, I'm gonna go ahead and give it a four and a half. It was enjoyable, I'd watch it again. I actually wanna get the Criterion Collection of Godzilla. I think it's like over $200, and it's all the Godzilla movies in ⁓ 4K and everything else, and I know it also involves Gojira. But watching this, was on HBO and ⁓ I had a good time with it. I was very, very happy to watch it and very happy to be able to talk about it on this episode. But yeah, I give it a four and a half for an enjoyment. This was so much fun. It was emotional. There was the special effects of the time and ⁓ they don't, I mean, they're dated, but you gotta think of that time, 1950s. And there was a lot of movies like that. So I highly enjoyed that. For Godzilla minus one. ⁓ I didn't think about this, doing this episode, helped me a little bit. I am gonna have to give my enjoyment for this movie. You know what, I'm gonna fuck it, I'm gonna go with it. I'm gonna go with a four and a half for this one too. Four and a half. Like I said, I prefer Kong, but for a Godzilla movie, this is the best. I think the Americanized versions are, they're fun, but this one is more of a better story. I think this is a good character driven story, and that's I love about it. I love how, They put, you never thought a Godzilla movie would actually almost make you like pull at your heartstrings a little bit. That was nothing I was expecting. And the characters were just so great. The group, the group of guys, they're all sitting around the table and talking and then saying, why haven't you married her and everything else? Because of this, know, the keto, is it Niketo? All right, yeah, and everything else and how she, you know, they met after he's come back from World War II and. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: and everything else. yeah, this was this was so much fun. I actually enjoyed it a second time better than the first time. Because the first time I watched it, I was like, Okay, it's okay. It's good. I enjoyed it. I understand why people liked it. But watching it a second time for some reason made it better. So this is to me, this is one of those movies that you watch a second time and it's even better. I enjoyed the characters more. ⁓ Beautiful movie. ⁓ The the CGI. I was talking to good about this yesterday. Actually, I think the CGI is great. There are some scenes though, where I'm shocked at this one best visual effects. think they were going because of the budget where it almost seemed like a sci-fi, a sci-fi channel movie. There was just some little scenes here and there, but maybe after we were talking about how he's so like that stance that he has, maybe that was intentional to make it look like the original. So I don't know, but that's why for my critical for this movie, I'm still trying to go for it for the budget that they had. I'm probably just, I'm going to give this a four. because the acting, the special effects, everything in this movie was top notch. I think it was great. I don't think it was amazing because there was some CGI that I couldn't tell if it was intentional or if it was just not the best CGI, with the budget that they're working with, it still worked out. ⁓ This was a really well-made movie, well-directed. And you said that the guy that directed this was good. It's like his main thing was like special effects. speaker-1: you, SBX, know, FX, he was a master of that stuff. So he had a small team with him and like they took their time planning, scoping every day out how they're going to do their scenes. Like you'll pay attention to the small little details and make it look so authentic. Either hide some of the small things that they know that they casual audience wants to see, but just make it more impactful was huge. speaker-0: Yeah, so yeah, that's that's basically what I'm gonna go with Godzilla minus one. This is this this is to me the best Godzilla movie out there ⁓ But like I said, I prefer Kong. I would take Peter Jackson's Kong over this I'm not really worried about Kong Skull Island. That one was that was fun, but Peter Jackson's Kong in the original Kong We're better in my opinion. I still like those But this, I were to go for a Godzilla, if I were to tell somebody you wanna see a good Godzilla movie, watch Godzilla Minus One. You wanna watch it, but I would recommend watching it with subtitles because it makes it more realistic. If you watch it dubbed, I think that's gonna ruin the movie. I don't know, Burley, didn't affect you in any way, it didn't bother you, but I couldn't do it dubbed. I think that would just mess it up a little bit and make it, I guess it all- speaker-2: I wonder I wonder how much the translation is kind of fucked up because there's a certain point where she's like Here's some gruel and then she walks outside there goes all my prize rice and then just walks away I'm like, okay. I had no way that that's how they really say it in in Japanese, but yeah speaker-1: Yeah, my son asked me, like, he noticed it, you know, them talking English because they wanted to watch it with me. And like, you know, I had it on English and like their lips were moving. So they were like looking to see what like, is he really saying that? I'm like, no, he's speaking Japanese. speaker-2: It's like those old Kung Fu flicks, you know? speaker-0: Yeah, those are the best. So just see the way that they yell at each other. It's just, it's not moving with the words. It's fucking hilarious. speaker-2: It's a cultural thing, I'm telling you. The A and the H on the keyboard is just ⁓ in the scripts. It's so much, it's crazy. ⁓ speaker-0: So that's my Pi Review, so Burley, you are gonna be next. speaker-2: All right, let's do this. The original 1954, I'm going higher than the new one at a 4.5 only because I went into this once, because first I had to verify I had the right movie with Goot. And then I saw what year, 54. I'm like, dude, it hadn't even been 10 years since we bombed the shit out of them. So fucking, they're in ruins. And this guy made this movie. So I'm like, all right, let's see what they do with this. So I'm looking at it through that lens. If that makes sense. Somebody they made this guy's is probably, don't even know how much it costs, probably 10 bucks to make that movie. And, ⁓ it, they thought it through so perfectly on their shot for fucking shot. They put a lot of thought into every shot on that thing. All the model, could tell they were models. Yeah. Cool. All that. But at the same time, just like, They figured out a way how to film this in a bathtub and make it work. You know what I mean? They got little boats flipping over in the water and just little trickles of water and shit like that. I really liked that. The acting, I will say, has evolved a bit since then. I don't know if it's just because I don't watch very many Asian movies, but when they cry, it kind of looks like they're laughing. So I was kind of thrown off at that point. But I really enjoyed that hell out of Gojiro, the original one. So 4.5. ⁓ GM1 dude, I'm going for just because I enjoyed the first one so much. Maybe I shouldn't have watched them back to back day after day. Maybe I should have gave it some time in between. ⁓ But I did like the callbacks and watching them back to back, I did see the callbacks on there a bunch of times. And now that I know that he did it on a shoestring budget, that's even sicker. I like the hell out of that. ⁓ speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-2: Critical thought side, you mentioned the CGI. I didn't, I only noticed that one scene, bro. That looked bad. I would have thought this was $150 million movie. Easy, I didn't know that, so. speaker-0: I believe it was talked about a lot where people thought that this was like a high budget and when they saw that what the budget was like really How are they pulling that off with only 10 15 million dollars? But America is making 300 million dollar movies and it looks like dogshit. So it's it's speaker-2: Dude, that was a mindfuck. I didn't know that before this show. So, all the ocean scenes were CGI? speaker-1: Yes. It was the hardest part to film for them. Like that was the most challenging, like to make it look so authentic. And was like, some parts CGI with the waves and like how, because obviously with Godzilla there would cause a huge tsunami and knock all the bricks down. having that space and like having the way they had their spatial stuff and they filmed it was just a masterpiece. speaker-0: I believe so. speaker-2: Yeah, that's impressive then because I would have thought they least had a couple of baby CGI the boats that are not the ones that are people are on or being filmed. speaker-0: Yeah, because water is one of the hardest things to do CGI of. It's very hard to make water look... speaker-2: Tell that to Kevin Costner. ⁓ speaker-1: in the room. speaker-0: That's a great movie. That's a fun movie. I don't care what anybody says. I like that movie. like it. It's Matt Max on the water. That's basically what it is. speaker-2: love Waterworld dude, I don't know. It's it's it's sick flick shout out to who's the bad guy in that one? speaker-0: It's Dennis Hopper. speaker-2: Yeah, Dennis Hopper. Shout out to him. He's the best part of that flick. ⁓ speaker-0: Dennis Hopper's great in everything. I fucking love Dennis Hopper. speaker-2: I'm going 4.5 on the critical for sure just because man, I didn't see a whole lot wrong. I enjoyed the shit out of it. ⁓ Gojira number one is number two. And then a close third with the old 1998 Ferris Bueller's Day at the Godzilla plant. speaker-1: lot. speaker-0: Really, have you seen the original King Kong, 1933 King Kong? speaker-2: I have not. I have not. speaker-0: What's cool about that movie is it's claymation. Kong is claymation. all the- Yes, but what's cool about it is when he's up on the tower, you see all the fingerprints of them trying to move. So it's making his hair look like it's actually moving. So it's like it's moving in the wind. So it actually makes it more, it's really cool. It's actually for the time the claymation in that era was fucking beautiful. And you really do feel for Kong when he dies in that, for a claymation character. speaker-1: I think speaker-0: When you have a chance, check out the 1933 RKO version of King Kong. It's a classic. speaker-2: I'm going to right now, I'm gonna download it. You're talking about the $200 Criterion, do we get you a VPN? Do we get a VPN sponsor on this show? If we get you a VPN, just download all this stuff for free. Cost you nothing. 4K Criterion Collections there. speaker-0: I that VPN. speaker-2: Let's go. ⁓ speaker-1: Let's get perplexity as our AI sponsor. speaker-2: Yeah, yeah, ⁓ speaker-1: To answer your question about the budget. So the budget for the original Godzilla was a hundred million yen. So in US dollars, that was 275 to 300 thousand dollars. speaker-2: What's that worth in 1954? speaker-0: $375,000? speaker-1: 275,000 to 300,000 for that it was 100 million yen 1954. So for US dollars was 275,000 to 300,000. That was the budget. speaker-0: What was the budget of Kong now? I'm really curious. ⁓ that was in the 30s. So it would be even different. That's a f- speaker-1: If was today, it'd be three to five million dollars. speaker-2: Wow. speaker-0: That's crazy. It's fucking crazy. The model work in that was great though. You really see all those models. I love seeing the little model boats, little toy boats in the water. That was fun to see. You could tell they were models, but it was fun. speaker-2: You It was hilarious. Clearly they had it just like in a little pool or something. The shots were just tight, dude. It was nice. speaker-1: Yeah, so the Nazi 303 movie was 670,000. speaker-0: So was more than Godzilla would've been. speaker-1: Because the stop motion animation. speaker-0: Well, ⁓ there was a lot more sets in that one because that one was out in the jungle and then it was also in New York and the whole model of New York, the Empire State Building and stuff like that. speaker-2: Stop Motion probably takes like a year just by itself. Dude, I started watching this other show, not to get off top of it. Have you seen that show with the... Shoot. Who's the Green Goblin? Not a UFO, the sun, the sun. speaker-0: Wonderful. James Rinko. speaker-2: James Franco, have you seen that show where he's going back to like save JFK? speaker-0: Yeah, because he's been kind of blacklisted in Hollywood. speaker-2: He's back, baby. It's on Netflix. It's called, it's all about him going back in time to stop the JFK assassination. It's pretty dang good. It's just numbers. I forget the date. It's 19. speaker-0: Really? It's a recent show? speaker-1: 11.263 speaker-2: Yeah, when did that come out? speaker-1: Released that was 2016, February 15th. speaker-2: ⁓ I just hit Netflix. speaker-1: It's a TV miniseries. ⁓ speaker-2: Pretty damn good. speaker-0: Yeah, because I think he's been kind of black. I don't think he's been in any movies lately. He's kind of been like cancel. The cancel movement went on him. speaker-2: He'll be back. He's too good looking. speaker-0: Yeah, well, Kevin Spacey back. I don't think Kevin Spacey will be back. I can tell you that. speaker-2: Yeah, he's not that good looking, dude. You gotta be real good looking, dude. speaker-0: Franco's a good actor too. I mean, he's actually acted in some really good movies. And I will always love him in the comedy, This Is the End. This Is the End is fucking hilarious. It's one my favorite. speaker-2: That's a good fucking flick. speaker-1: So Ron, did you see the fun comparison I put up? speaker-0: No, I didn't. You said the comparison for the budget? speaker-1: Yeah, for King Kong, Godzilla, then minus one. speaker-0: Go ahead, let me see it as I try and read this. I'm not having glasses. speaker-1: You see it? I say King Kong in 1933 was about 670,000 today. speaker-0: Jesus Christ speaker-2: spend some money. speaker-1: Fuck yeah. speaker-0: And I know the Peter Jackson version was almost like 200 million. I know that was an expensive film too. But that one was all, I mean that movie was mainly CGI, but that's Peter Jackson, that's what he does. I love Peter Jackson's calling, that one was amazing. I think that was a good remake of the original. speaker-2: I need to revisit the first one and the original again. Sorry, the Peter Jackson one and the original. speaker-0: The ⁓ re- The Peter Jackson's good. It's long. I mean, it's a three hour long movie, but it might it pulls in my heartstrings. When you when Kong dies. I'm sorry, it gets to me. don't give a fuck. That's that's scene was rough. You know, you you learn you learn to love this fucking Kong character because he is really a character. It's Andy Serkis playing Kong and he does a really good job at it. The master of ⁓ stop. What is it? Not stop motion. ⁓ Motion capture. Yeah. Yeah. speaker-1: Thanks for your time. speaker-0: So what is your part of reviews? ⁓ go ahead, Burleigh. speaker-2: Sorry, I'm going back to the director. What's his name here? Ishiro Honda? speaker-1: Yeah speaker-0: For Godzilla Minus One or? speaker-2: He directed a bunch of Godzilla movies. speaker-1: You found his niche man. speaker-2: Dude, he did so many. And he went under pseudonyms as well as a director. speaker-0: How many Godzilla movies are there? speaker-2: There's a gang of undead. speaker-0: Many. No, there's more than that, I think. speaker-1: 20s, 26. speaker-0: Let's see how many Godzilla movies are there there are 38? There's 33 Japanese movies. Shora era is 1954, 1975. Heza era is 1984, 1995. Millennium era, 99 through 2004. Should I remember Godzilla 2000 that came in the theater back in 2000? Remember that? And that was dubbed. And I think that one was more cheesier, but it was Godzilla 2000 basically a release in the American States on the American theaters. And Shin Godzilla and Godzilla minus one of the more recent ones. And I guess you said they are making a sequel to Godzilla minus one. Is it in the works or they in production or are they just, it's nothing. speaker-1: Yeah. production right now. I know they were trying to come up with a storyline but yeah it's in production right now. speaker-0: Well, you go ahead and finalize us with your part reviews. speaker-1: All right. So the original 1954 enjoyment, it had been some time since I've watched it and I've rewatched it again because I've watched minus one so many times, know, just watching that. I have so much respect for, know, the being authentic and like showing what they could do with technology back in the day, how they filmed it, the frame rate and just like all the little things here and there are like critical wise, but it impacts the enjoyment for me a lot more because like the attention to detail they put into it. show the characters kind of drive you crazy and like the it's hilarious to science fiction, know, the taking all the oxygen out of the water that would cause so much damage to the everything the whole ecosystem. They're all screwed if they did that. And so it makes me laugh. But it's a good concept. if you put yourself in that time machine going back in there and like watching that movie with all those people in that crowd, we're going to watch it and your people are going to be scared to death. Yeah, like you always picture Like Tom Savini, like his mom seeing the original Dr. Jekyll and Hyde in theaters and like just, you know, seeing that on the screen. No, it's the Phantom Opera. Yeah, that one. And then like his mom being like so like blown away and devastated by it like the impact I had on him and special effects is just huge. I always think of that timeframe and like that time capsule, putting yourself there. So enjoyment, I'd give it a four and a half. I, you know, I... A lot of these movies I do with us and like I watch it now through my kids eyes. So like they're 11, 9, and 7 and like they're watching it and like they're seeing it in black and white and like they're asking me questions about the movie and stuff like that. So it's so much more enjoyment for me to watch it through their eyes and just to see and ask your questions for them and yeah, still shots they have of you know Godzilla and just how they pulled it off and just it was just fantastic. ⁓ So minus one, you know my enjoyment rating. is a five out of five. That blows me away. Every time I watch this movie, because I've watched this multiple times and it still hits you every time. Just the fact it's not a monster movie, like what they were able to pull off with the characters, making you feel for the characters. That was huge for me because if you're invested into the characters, you're going to care what happens at the end. You don't have to rely so heavily on the monster. You have all these different motives and tasks and character arcs to play out. it's just the flow of the movie is perfect. The cinematography, the the sound, the score is just perfect. It just fits the movie so well. speaker-0: Symmetography, agree with you on that. It's beautiful cinematography. Great, shots and everything else, especially the water shots in that field. speaker-1: The atomic breath alone just like causing that nuclear mushroom caught again Just seeing that and like just the horror these people feel like they're gonna lose in life. There's no winning. They're all screwed So yeah, I felt like the major The world-building, know post-war Japan and like it's just fantastic world bidding there and It just adds to the movie right there. So Yeah, every time he appears it's speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: the intensity grows like you feel these people are like they're It's a survival and like it's just pitted against everything. They have to do everything they can and think it's something bigger and bigger. They try to beat, you know, defeat this monster from destroying everything because they know it's going more toward Tokyo. So they know they're screwed. So it's like once you lose that. Yeah. And plus the, you the, you mentioned this earlier on, but like, know, the people coming together and the government always have their little side stuff here and there, but not really having their back and not being there for them. It just shows. the strength of people because can you imagine like nowadays when they have an earthquake or if they have like a nuclear scare, nobody riots nobody they'll come together this calm and peaceful. But in the back of their minds, you got to think is Godzilla coming next? speaker-2: Yeah ⁓ speaker-1: ⁓ what? speaker-0: or an invasion by Mars. You got Mars attacks. You also got some UFOs coming down and killing everybody and destructing everything. It's Mars attacks all over again. speaker-1: Hopefully Trump release that you know get that you know disclosure coming soon I love I love how this movie it just re-eviscerates re-inventing rates the whole kaiju and Godzilla bringing that back in the meaningful way and like having people care about it in a different light from the you know Kong and Godzilla first Mecha Godzilla and all these different movies are coming out with now it's just spectacular just the speaker-2: You speaker-1: have that other aspect from a Japanese culture aspect. ⁓ My critic rating is a five out of five. Like I can suspend my belief and like, yeah, I can like look at little things here and there. And but I'm still blown away because like the budget I wish I could take advantage of this because There's so much trickle down effect. You have all these big budgets and you have constantly here. Even with like the promotion, the social media guides and like the promoting of the film, it goes another 50 million dollars higher than the budget. Yeah. So I don't understand how these people just like set money on fire and keep losing money. All these studios because you're you're not making good movies. They're all cheap. They're all very expensive and people aren't buying it. So it should be a clear message to them. Let's something better. Let's change because you're screwing over movie theaters because I heard that like 200 AMC theaters went out of business because like, know, people aren't going to the movie theaters. So it's like huge. Like there's so much trickle down effect to this. ⁓ like I said earlier, the cinematography, the score, just the acting, the backdrop and like the world building that does that. That's that's just incredible to me. You can't beat that. The lighting, you know, they were able to like, you know, show it in the dark time and like, you know, just the The cinematography is perfect. I think that's what makes it exceptional. speaker-0: All of our reviews are above four to five. mean, that's crazy.
